Yes, you read that correctly. We are supposed to have a holographic smartphone in 2018! RED, who currently makes high end cameras, has been teasing the release of a smartphone which uses holograph technology called Hydrogen One.
At this point they have displayed the prototype bodies and some insiders have seen the holographic view or “4-view” that will allow you to see 3D images without special headsets. Although it sounds like something akin to the Nintendo 3DS, RED founder Jim Jannard says “there is no good way to describe it until you see it” and that we haven’t seen tech like this before.
At this point the display and body have not been put together to give users a real feel of the technology. Supposedly we will see more news on this and possibly demos within the next 30-45 days. The phone is also set to have modular components to allow upgrades to the camera to allow better stills, video and capturing your own “holo” media.
The price is currently set at $1600 for the unlocked phone in titanium or $1200 for aluminum.
